FAQ, Schomberg Minor Hockey LL (King Township Minor Hockey)

What is the Schomberg Minor Hockey Association (SMHA)?

-Schomberg Minor Hockey is a volunteer run, not-for-profit organization dedicated to organize, develop and promote minor ice hockey for the youth of Schomberg. Our "Schomberg Red Wings" play Local League and, along with our partnership with Nobleking Minor Hockey, the "King Rebellion" play in Rep leagues.

Where does the SMHA play?

-The Schomberg Red Wings practice and play home games out of the Trisan Centre - 25 Dillane Dr, Schomberg, ON

What is Local League?

-Local League is similar to House League in that it's open to all skill levels with a primary focus on fun and development. While House League teams generally only play against teams in their own association, Local League teams will travel to other associations in the area to play against their teams. The SMHA is part of the Simcoe Region Local League (SRLL) and play in loops against teams such as Beeton, Bradford, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, Innisfil, King City, Lefroy, New Tecumseth, Nobleton, Richmond Hill and Thornton.

How does Local League differ from Rep?

-Local League is open to all players, while you must challenge (try out) for a spot on a Representative Hockey team. Evaluations occur in April and May for most teams, with some teams having tryouts in September. Rep players from King Township (including those from Schomberg) play for the King Township Minor Hockey Association which offers teams up to the AA level.

When does hockey start?

-Our season starts right after Labour Day and we play until March.

What days are they on the ice?

-While we always try to keep a consistent schedule, since Local League teams play away games in other teams' arenas, we don't have full control over what days those games will be played. Practices and Home Games will always be in Schomberg, and we try to keep those times consistent.
