Welcome to hockey! This section aims to take some of the confusion out of registering your child for hockey for the first time.
Schomberg Minor Hockey is your local hockey association and offers a number of programs. Although many players start as young as 4 years old, your child is welcome to start playing at any age!
Schomberg teams (from U7LL through U21LL) play in the Simcoe Region Local League (SRLL). A Local League is like a travelling House League, providing a rep experience, but for all skill levels. We play against teams from other towns such as Beeton, Bradford, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, Innisfil, King City, Lefroy, New Tecumseth, Nobleton, Richmond Hill and Thornton.
The Introductory Program:
The Introductory Program (U5) is a fun program for 4 year-olds and below just getting started with their first years of hockey. The skills of skating, puck control, passing and shooting are introduced and refined throughout the year, but the focus is always on fun!
U7 Local League (U7LL):
The U7LL team is for 5 and 6 year-olds and is the youngest group to play in the Simcoe Region Local League. This program follows the Hockey Canada Player Pathway playing cross ice games with lots of opportunity for touching the puck and learning the fundamentals of the game.
U8 Local League (U8LL):
The U8LL team is for 7 year-olds and continues the Hockey Canada Player Pathway with half ice practices and games.
U9 Local League (U8LL):
The U9LL team is for 8 year-olds and starts where U8 left off with half ice games and practices, before transitioning to full ice half way through the year.
U11 Local League (U11LL):
The U11LL team is for 9 and 10 year-olds.
U13 Local League (U13LL):
The U13LL team is for 11 and 12 year-olds.
U15 Local League (U15LL):
The U15LL team is for 13 and 14 year-olds.
U18 Local League (U18LL):
The U18LL team is for 15, 16 and 17 year-olds.
U21 Local League (U21LL):
The U21LL team is for 18, 19 and 20 year-olds.
Rep Teams:
In addition to Local League, we also offer a Rep program for higher skill levels through our partnership with King Township Minor Hockey. More information on King teams can be found at KingMinorHockey.com
