History, Schomberg Minor Hockey LL (King Township Minor Hockey)

PrintHistory

The Schomberg Minor Hockey Association (SMHA) was formed in 1961 as a way to provide organized hockey for all of the youth in the Schomberg and surrounding areas.  An Executive was assembled of volunteers to organize and supervise the various teams and manage record keeping.  Over 50+ seasons later, this structure is still in place today and continues to be driven by a hard working team of volunteers.  From 1963 until 2011, the Schomberg Community and Agricultural Arena had been called "home" for the SMHA and all the children who had learned to play the game.  On Friday March 25th, 2011 the last official game was played in the arena by our Midget Rep Red Wings versus Whitby Wildcats.

The SMHA opened its 50th season in the all new, state of the art, TRISAN CENTRE, in Schomberg in the fall of 2011.  This new facility offers a larger ice surface, additional change rooms and increased recreational facilities.  Although the "old barn" will always be missed, the association and its membership have enjoyed creating new memories in its new home.

In 2017, Nobleking Minor Hockey and Schomberg Minor Hockey entered into a partnership to operate a joint Rep program beginning with the 2017/18 season.  Schomberg continues to operate its own LL program.
